Privacy

Edulect is a civic reference. It works without an account, and it is built so that the least possible amount of information about you is kept.

Address searches

Your search is sent to our server to find your congressional district. We cache the normalized text of a lookup and its matched district so repeated searches are fast and we stay within the rate limits of the government geocoder. That cache is not linked to you, and it is not readable from the app. Your recent searches live only in the current browser tab and disappear when you close it.

Accounts

Signing in is optional and only adds persistence. If you create an account we store your email address (through our authentication provider), a display name if you set one, and the addresses, officials and conversations you choose to save. Only you can read those rows. You can delete saved addresses, followed officials and saved conversations at any time from your account page.

The assistant

Questions you ask the assistant are sent to a third-party AI model provider to generate an answer, along with the cited government records we assemble for context. Conversations are not saved unless you are signed in and choose to save them. We apply a per-hour request limit per network address to prevent abuse; to do that we keep a short-lived counter, not your questions.

Feedback

The feedback button stores your star rating, anything you type, and which page you were on. It is submitted anonymously — we do not attach your account or your address to it — and it is not readable from the app. Please don't include personal details in the message box.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell or share your information with advertisers or campaigns.
  • We don't build political profiles of readers or infer how you might vote.
  • We don't use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Questions or deletion requests

You can ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it. Use the feedback button or the correction path described on our methodology page, and see our terms for how the content may be used.
